In Eastern philosophy, the human being is seen as a microcosm of nature, a tiny universe unto itself. Everything in this system is connected and mutually dependent on each other. In the last few decades, this connection has largely been lost, and, I believe, this is one of the reasons that we are experiencing disease and illness in unprecedented numbers. Somewhere along the way our connection to nature has been lost, and we are paying for it with our health.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is more than 4000 years old and is one of the oldest medical systems on earth. Disease is seen as an imbalance in the system and Chinese medicine attempts to restore that balance through acupuncture, herbs, bodywork, energy work and all the other modalities that it employs. It holds the body in great reverence and attempts to heal all aspects of a person, mind body and spirit. When all aspects of a person are balanced, health is restored.

I graduated from the Institute of Traditional Medicine in 2006. This 3 year, full time program constituted 2400 hours with 780 clinical hours. I have continued to take courses part time working towards my Doctor of Chinese Medicine degree, which is 6 years in total. My specialties include gynecology and pediatrics, mood disorders (such as anxiety and depression) and energy medicine.

My exposure to Chinese medicine when I was young showed me what a beautiful and complete healing system it is. I have been having acupuncture and taking herbs for years and I believe in this medicine absolutely because I know that it works. It is not dealing with the body alone, what a person thinks, feels and the way they experience the world all affect their health. Chinese medicine attempts to heal all aspects of a person, and because each of us experiences illness in a different way, the practitioner of Chinese medicine works to develop a diagnosis and treatment strategy that is unique to you and how you experience your particular condition.
