Why Massage Therapy?

Structural Alignment

Massage Therapy is the treatment of the muscles and connective tissue of the body to achieve and maintain proper alignment.

Tightness creates asymmetry and looseness allows it to continue. Tightening of a muscle reciprocally inhibits the opposing muscle since muscle and its covering tissue are closely bonded.

Scar tissue or adhesions in the muscles from injury or inflammation may cause shorting due to the contractive nature of scar tissue. Adhesions and scar tissue also restrict the normal movement of the area and can cause pain.

Tissue distortions have both local and systemic effects in the body. Any blockage in the body impairs its functions leading to a range of ailments or pain.

A general massage treatment principle is to stretch, release and lengthen tissue that is undesirably short, stuck and tight.

Stress & Relaxation

Researchers estimate that stress contributes to as many as 80% of all major illnesses.

The body responds to stress by increasing adrenaline, elevating blood pressure and tensing the muscles. The digestion slows or stops, fats and sugars are released into the blood, cholesterol levels rise. The hormones cortisone and cortisol are released which inhibit white blood cell function and suppress the immune system.

Long Term chronic stress contributes to the development of diabetes, adrenal fatigue, weight gain or loss and heart disease.

Massage helps stimulate the body’s self healing by decreasing the nervous systems stress response bringing the body to homeostatic balance.

Make massage a routine part of your lifestyle.
