Aroma was the first clinic in Toronto built entirely around hair removal. We opened in 2008 and started the one-stop-shop era for waxing, sugaring, laser, threading, tinting, and spray tan, and have looked after well over 300,000 clients since. Most of our regulars first booked with us years ago and never went anywhere else.

Our Story

Before Aroma opened in 2008, there really wasn't such a thing as a dedicated waxing clinic in Toronto. If you wanted a wax, you usually got it at your nail salon, in a small back room between manicures, on a table that wasn't built for it, by a technician who did a bit of everything. We thought hair removal deserved its own home.

That is what we built. Trained waxers. Proper private rooms. Custom wax. Single-use spatulas. And a one-stop menu that grew over the years to cover sugaring, laser, threading, tinting, and spray tan. The waxing-specialist studio is a normal thing in Toronto today. Aroma started that era.

Over 300,000 clients have walked through our doors since 2008. What we are more proud of than the count is how many of them are still walking through. A large share of our weekly book is people who first came in years ago and just kept coming back, some of them now bringing their daughters.

Our technicians don't squeeze hair removal in between other services. This is their craft. They train on it, they do it all day, and they get better at it every year. That is what "specialist" means at Aroma, and it is the difference clients feel from the first appointment. Experience matters most for intimate areas, because if a wax is done poorly there is a real chance of tears, rips, or bruising. That is exactly why our technicians specialize. We only hire licensed and certified technicians, which is a big part of why discomfort stays minimal even in sensitive areas.

Custom Wax for Sensitive Skin

Aroma uses a custom Toronto-made cream-based wax, a combination of hard and soft wax with no colours and no perfumes. It’s made for sensitive skin types, and we heat it at a much lower temperature than other waxes to avoid any burns. Mary created it after years on the floor seeing the same problem: people reacting to the colours or scents in standard salon wax.

No Double-Dipping. Ever.

Every spatula is used once and discarded. The applicator never goes back into the wax pot after touching skin. This is non-negotiable at every Aroma room, every visit, every body area, including Brazilians.

Custom Wax, Made in Toronto

Our cream-based wax is a combination of hard and soft wax made in Toronto for our clinic. There are no colours, no perfumes, and it’s heated at a much lower temperature than other waxes, designed for sensitive skin from the start. We chose local because the supply chain is short, the quality stays consistent, and we can specify exactly what goes into it. We also use hard wax on smaller, more delicate areas like the inside of the ear and nose, where the wax should only attach to the hair, never the membrane.

Fresh Linens, Sanitized Surfaces

The treatment bed is wiped and re-covered between every client. High-touch surfaces, handles, and laser handpieces are disinfected between appointments. Tools that cannot be single-use are properly cleaned and sanitized to clinic standards.

Single-Use Where It Counts

Spatulas, paper coverings, applicator tips for any service that touches skin or hair, and personal-area protective coverings are single-use and disposed of after one client. Reusable items are limited to those that can be properly sanitized.

Private, Closed-Door Rooms

Brazilians, bikini sugaring, and laser are always done in a private room with the door closed. You undress only the area being treated, and you are covered until the technician begins.

Aroma started as one clinic in 2008 because Mary had an idea about how hair removal in Toronto could be done better. Stanka and Ingrid are her two oldest friends. They watched her open the first location, and one by one they decided the obvious thing: doing this together would be more fun than doing it apart.

Today, Mary runs Bloor & Bathurst, Stanka runs Yonge & Davisville, and Ingrid runs the Streetsville location in Mississauga. Three best friends, three businesses, one shared way of doing things. The wax is the same. The training is the same. The care for clients is the same. The reason the team feels like a team is that, at the top, it actually is one.

Mary opened the first Aroma in 2008 with one quiet, stubborn idea: that hair removal in Toronto could be more professional, more comfortable, and a lot less awkward. Years and a lot of clients later, Aroma is what she imagined. Mary still works the floor, still trains every technician, and still answers the phone when one of her two best friends calls. With years of experience in waxing, sugaring, and laser hair removal, she has helped shape Aroma into a trusted name across the city.

Mary also developed Aroma’s custom cream-based wax. “I saw there was a need to create something for all skin types. Some people have sensitivities to colours or perfumes. I wanted to create something with neither of those things, and something we could heat at a much lower temperature to avoid any burns.” That wax, and the application-and-removal technique she trains every Aroma technician on, is the reason clients say Aroma waxing feels less painful than other places.

Stanka is one of Mary's two oldest friends and the woman behind the Yonge & Davisville clinic. When Mary opened the first Aroma, Stanka watched it grow and eventually said the obvious thing: let's do this together. The Midtown location is hers. The friendship is theirs. Stanka brings a warm, no-nonsense style to every client and a genuine love for the work, which on most days is the same as a love for hanging out with her best friends while doing what they are good at.

Ingrid is the third of the trio and the reason Aroma stretched out west. She runs the Streetsville location in Mississauga, with the same standard the team trained together on at Bloor: same wax, same technique, same care for the client. Like Mary and Stanka, Ingrid is here because she loves the work, and because doing it alongside her two best friends makes a job feel like something else entirely.

The fastest Brazilian wax at Aroma takes about eight minutes. That speed is not a stunt. It is the result of years of experience, a wax that grips coarse hair on the first pull, and a technique that does not waste motion. A short appointment is more comfortable, more hygienic, and more affordable, because you spend less time on the table and the area gets less repeat handling.

Speed is one part of comfort. The other part is the room. Our technicians have been doing this for years, so the language is calm, the instructions are clear, and nothing is left ambiguous. You do not need to know any vocabulary, you do not need to be groomed a certain way before you arrive, and you will not be rushed if you need a moment.

If you want a friend in the room, we can usually accommodate that. If you want quiet, you get quiet. If you have questions about positions, what is included, or what you might feel, ask before we start. Pausing the service is always okay, every time.

By transit: short walk from Bathurst Station on Line 2. The streetcar at Bathurst and Bloor stops outside the door.
