How to prep for your first wax

Good prep makes the wax go better: it helps the wax grip, lowers irritation, and stops you showing up with skin that's already irritated before anyone starts.

1
Grow the hair first

Aim for about a quarter of an inch, about the same length as a grain of rice. If you shave, that usually means waiting at least two weeks before your appointment.

2
Exfoliate gently a day or two before

Light exfoliation helps lift dead skin and makes waxing cleaner. Skip rough scrubbing right before your appointment.

3
Come clean and skip heavy lotions

Clean, dry skin is best. Oils and lotions can stop the wax from gripping the hair properly.

4
Skip retinol and mention any medications

For facial waxing especially, avoid retinol and tell the clinic if you use isotretinoin or antibiotics that can increase sensitivity.

5
Wear loose clothing

A smart choice after bikini, Brazilian, and body waxing: loose clothes reduce friction and post-wax irritation.

6
Go easy on caffeine before

Too much caffeine can heighten sensitivity. Keep it calm before the appointment.

What actually happens in the room

A good first-timer guide tells you what the visit actually feels like with clear steps and simple expectations.

We make it feel less awkward by giving you hygiene wipes to freshen up and a towel to place across yourself before the technician comes in. All our technicians speak with confidence, and we go through pre-care, post-care, and aftercare right in the room.

1
Quick check-in

We confirm the service, answer questions, and make sure the area is right for waxing that day.

2
Skin prep

The skin is cleaned and prepped so the wax can work properly and comfortably.

3
The wax itself

Most first-timers describe it as a quick sting, not ongoing pain. The anticipation is often worse than the actual pull.

4
Finish and aftercare

Once done, you get simple aftercare guidance so your skin stays calm and smooth instead of getting irritated later.

The next 24 to 48 hours matter

Take a break from workouts

Heavy exercise, sweat, and friction can irritate freshly waxed skin. Give it at least 24 hours, a little longer if still sensitive.

Skip hot tubs, pools, and very hot showers

Heat and swimming right after waxing can irritate the skin. Keep it low-key for 24 to 48 hours.

Wear loose clothes

Tight underwear or rough fabrics can rub the area and make bumps more likely, especially after bikini or Brazilian waxing.

Hands off

Touching the area too much can transfer bacteria and worsen redness. Let your skin settle for a bit.

Wait before exfoliating again

Waxing already exfoliates the skin. Give it about two days before exfoliating again so you don't overdo it.

Moisturize and calm it down

A gentle moisturizer or aloe can help if the area feels warm or red after the appointment.

What happens after your first wax

1
Your first regrowth can show sooner

Some hair may appear after one to two weeks the first time because not every hair is on the same cycle yet. That is normal.

2
Routine helps a lot

A common schedule is every four to five weeks. Staying consistent usually makes the experience easier and results better.

3
Book before trips, not the night before

Try to book a few days ahead so any redness settles before a vacation or special event.

When to speak up before the wax

1
Retinol or strong skincare

Important for facial waxing and any area where skin may already be more sensitive.

2
Antibiotics or isotretinoin

Some medications can make waxing a bad idea or mean extra caution is needed.

3
Sunburn, active irritation, or a rash

If the area is already irritated, tell us first. Better to reschedule than regret it after.

4
Pregnancy or period sensitivity

Many people still wax during these times, but skin can feel more sensitive, so it is good for us to know.
