Waxing for Sensitive Skin Toronto

Sensitive skin does not always mean waxing is off the table, but it does mean the appointment needs more care, better prep, and clear communication.

What does “sensitive skin” mean before waxing?

Sensitive skin can mean redness, dryness, quick irritation, or skin that reacts to products, colours, or perfumes. It’s also why Aroma’s cream-based wax was designed the way it was, no colours, no perfumes, and heated at a much lower temperature than other waxes to avoid burns. Waxing is still very possible for sensitive skin, but your technician should know what your skin is like before starting.

The biggest thing is honesty before the appointment. Mention strong skincare products, retinol, acids, recent peels, sunburn, rashes, recent laser, or any skin that already feels irritated. Waxing over irritated skin can make the area feel worse.

How Aroma adapts for sensitive skin

Sensitive skin was the reason Aroma created its own wax. Most salon waxes contain added colours and perfumes, the two things sensitive skin most often reacts to. Mary developed Aroma’s cream-based wax with neither of those, and at a much lower heating temperature than standard wax, specifically to avoid burns and reactions.

For sensitive skin, we apply that wax at an even cooler temperature to ensure there is no redness or irritation. When the wrong wax is used on a sensitive area, it can lift a layer of the skin and cause sensitivity, which is the problem the custom wax was made to solve in the first place.

Waxing areas clients often ask about

Pricing depends on the area you book. Choose the service that matches the area you want waxed.

From $6.80

Face Waxing

Face skin can be more reactive, especially with retinol, exfoliants, or recent treatments. Use the face page for area pricing.

From $12.75

Eyebrow Waxing

Brow waxing needs extra caution if you use retinol, acids, acne products, or recently had facial treatments.

From $11.90

Underarm Waxing

Underarms can react to deodorant, friction, and sweating, so aftercare matters for sensitive clients.

From $17.00

Bikini Waxing

Bikini-area skin can be sensitive to friction, heat, and tight clothing after waxing, so prep and aftercare are important.

Simple steps before, during, and after your appointment

The goal is not to promise “no reaction.” The goal is to reduce avoidable irritation and help clients prepare properly.

1

Tell us your skin history

Mention reactions, allergies, strong skincare, medications, recent peels, sunburn, laser, or irritation before waxing.

2

Pause harsh exfoliation

Avoid aggressive scrubs or strong actives right before waxing unless your provider has told you it is safe.

3

Choose the right area

Start with the service that makes sense for your skin and comfort level. Your technician can guide you.

4

Follow aftercare

Avoid heat, sweating, friction, fragrance, and heavy products shortly after waxing, especially on reactive skin.

When to pause or ask before booking

Some skin situations need caution. This is where the client should speak up before the wax goes on.

Retinol and strong actives

Tell your technician if you use retinol, acids, acne treatments, exfoliating products, or prescription skincare.

Sunburn or irritation

Do not wax over sunburned, broken, rashy, or actively irritated skin. Let it heal first.

Recent peels or facials

Recent facial treatments can make skin more reactive. Mention them before face or brow waxing.

Medication changes

Some medications can affect the skin. Tell the clinic about anything that may make your skin fragile.

Heat and sweat after waxing

Sauna, hot showers, heavy workouts, and tight friction can increase irritation after waxing.

Patchy reactions

If you often react unpredictably, discuss the best service plan before starting.
